Umm Nasser & Family
umm-nassar and her family were to be evicted from their home yesterday. luckily there has been an appeal, but it has cost them tens of thousands of shekels. she and her family's strength is so necessary and humbling in the face of the difficult situations of dispossession, annexation and family illness. she and her family have been so welcoming to me and the neighborhood project to create murals as a voice to speak out for humanity, to make a statement that responds to industries that wrongfully treat palestinians as second-class. we must advocate for justice for all marginalized peoples -- human beings who are regular people like anyone else and yet are so unfortunately portrayed in a different light under the realms of media and oppressive government. we are all sisters and brothers, and only something that can transcend words can describe how grateful i am to share a love with umm-nassar and her community. visit madaasilwan.org to read more about silwan and madaa creative center's initiatives. photographs taken with my 35mm film camera.
