Save Masafer Yatta

#SaveMassaferYatta - a Palestinian struggle that the Israeli regime doesn’t want you to hear about.

👉 For years, the communities in Massafer Yatta - 70 minutes from Jerusalem, 90 from Tel Aviv - have struggled for their most fundamental right to live in peace and security on their land. Israel’s violence against them is daily, it is systemic, and it is shattering. Ali’s hay bales were set ablaze, Yasmeen is too scared to sleep, and Jaber’s house has been demolished five times.

👉 Legally, the situation looks like this: the fate of hundreds of families who call Massafer Yatta home - living under the IDF-given label of Firing Zone 918 - has dangled by a thread for decades, in legal limbo over the course of a prolonged High Court case.

👉 And in practice? The result of this label is the ongoing forced displacement of a dozen Masafer Yatta communities from their home region - the place they’ve called home since long before the State of Israel was established. This displacement is among the most vicious, and at the largest scale, that Israel is perpetrating against Palestinians. The threat of expulsion builds upon the day-in and day-out oppression, and adds to the crushing weight of constant and cruel army and settler violence.

👉 Last night, over 100 activists, internationals and Israelis, put up portraits all over the country. These posters brought the story of the struggle for Massafer Yatta, a struggle for life and home, into our lives and our homes. Several solidarity activists were taken by police and held in detention all night, just for hanging posters - because our solidarity scares them. Because they know what we know - that together, when we share their stories and spread the struggle, people wake up, people rise up, and the journey to justice begins. Join us. #SaveMassaferYatta
